Our work
Water, hygiene, sanitation and care for the environment
Safe water within reach of every household, and communities equipped to keep it flowing long after the project ends.
Access to safe water, borehole development and the strengthening of community capacity to manage and maintain water institutions across the Diocese of Gweru. The Caritas Gweru team carries out this work in collaboration with government departments, communities, local leaders, parishes and other stakeholders, so that ownership sits with the community and the scheme outlasts the intervention.
Alongside water, the pillar protects water sources and the wider environment through planting and protecting trees, and through practices that strengthen resilience to a changing climate.
What this covers
- Borehole development and rehabilitation
- Piped water schemes and community water points
- Water point committees trained to manage, maintain and repair
- Hygiene and sanitation promotion at household and school level
- Tree planting and protection of water sources and catchments
How it is delivered
In partnership, on the ground
Caritas Gweru delivers this pillar with government departments, communities, local leaders, parishes and other stakeholders. Communities identify the need, local structures are trained to carry the work, and ownership stays where it belongs.
